Sikorsky Aircraft Corp, a division of Lockheed Martin, was awarded a $26,947,749 modification to contract for UH-60M Black Hawk Foreign Military Sales green aircraft. The Kingdom of Jordan is set to receive an UH-60M VVIP Black Hawk helicopter later this year. Work will be performed in Stratford, Connecticut, with an estimated completion date of June 30, 2022. Fiscal 2021 Foreign Military Sales (Jordan) funds in the amount of $26,947,749 were obligated at the time of the award. U.S. Army Contracting Command, Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, is the contracting activity.
The aircraft, purchased through the U.S. Army’s foreign military sales program, will undergo VVIP (Very Very Important Person) modifications and will ultimately be used to transport Jordan’s King Abdullah bin Hussein II and the royal family. The pending modifications are being completed via direct commercial sales with Nebraska Gas Turbine Inc. King Abdullah II is a member of the Hashemite dynasty, the royal family of Jordan since 1921, and he is a 41st-generation direct descendant of Muhammad.
The Government of Jordan has requested to buy one (1) UH-60M Black Hawk helicopter in standard U.S. Army configuration with standard Government Furnished Equipment (GFE), including two (2) T700-GE-701D engines and one (1) Common Missile Warning System. Also included is one (1) AN/APR-39 Radar Signal Detecting Set; one (1) AN/AVR-2B Laser Detecting Set; two (2) AN-ARC-231 Radios; two (2) AN-ARC-201D Radios; one (1) AN/APX-123A Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) Transponder; two (2) Embedded Global Positioning System with Inertial Navigation (EGIs); one (1) Common Missile Warning System User Data Module and Aviation Mission Planning System (AMPS).
The UH-60M will supplement Jordan’s existing Royal Squadron fleet of Black Hawk helicopters and be used to facilitate the movement of the Jordanian Royal Family in a safe and efficient manner. Jordan already has the UH-60M capability and will have no difficulty absorbing this equipment and services into its armed forces. U.S. policy seeks to reinforce Jordan’s commitment to peace, stability, and moderation. In light of ongoing regional unrest, as well as global disruptions stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic, the United States has helped Jordan maintain its stability and prosperity through economic and military assistance and through close political cooperation.
