In response to Indonesia’s request, Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) Endurance-class RSS Endeavour (210) arrived at Tanjung Priok Port, North Jakarta, to deliver oxygen supplies and equipment to help Indonesia fight COVID19. The delivery came after phone calls between Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investments Luhut Pandjaitan – who is coordinating the nation’s Covid-19 response. The ship carried two tanks with 40 tonnes of liquid oxygen, 500 cylinders of oxygen and 570 oxygen concentrators.
Indonesia reported 35,094 Covid-19 cases and 826 deaths on Saturday, bringing its total tally so far to more than 2.49 million cases and 65,457 deaths. The Indonesian authorities extended Covid-19 restrictions to 15 new locations across the archipelago last Friday. This was in a bid to avert the crisis seen on the island of Java, where hospitals are being pushed to the limit, oxygen supplies are low, and four of five designated Covid-19 burial grounds in the capital Jakarta are close to full. Singapore tightened border measures for travellers from Indonesia on Saturday, following a spike in Covid-19 cases there.
Endeavour (210) is the fourth ship of the Endurance-class landing platform dock of the Republic of Singapore Navy. She was laid down in 1998 and launched on 12 February 2000. Commissioned on 7 April 2001 with the hull number 210. Two additional SAF task groups have been deployed to the Gulf of Aden, RSS Endurance from June to October 2010 and Endeavour from August 2011. The Endurance-class landing platform dock were designed and built by Singapore Technologies (ST) Marine to replace the old County-class tank landing ships.
