Fulcrum Concepts LLC,* Mattaponi, Virginia, was awarded a $9,536,937 cost-plus-fixed-fee contract for the development, integration and testing of the Modular Effects Launcher. Bids were solicited via the internet with one received. Work will be performed in Mattaponi, Virginia, with an estimated completion date of June 9, 2023. Fiscal 2021 research, development, test and evaluation, U.S. Army funds in the amount of $9,536,937 were obligated at the time of the award. U.S. Army Contracting Command, Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, is the contracting activity.
Modular Effects Launcher now being developed to launch, not just missiles and rockets, but multi-purpose mini-drones called Air-Launched Effects (ALE). In 2020, the U.S. Army awarded 10 contracts for different aspects of ALE: Three companies are competing to build the drone itself, three are competing for the digital mission system architecture, and four are building different payloads. The Modular Effects Launcher, meanwhile, should be ready for flight test next year – installed on a surrogate aircraft, since the FARA prototypes will still be under construction.
Fulcrum Concepts LLC delivered its first GLB-4 Griffin® B Block II Launcher in 2013. The GLB-4 is a lightweight airborne launcher designed to be carried on both fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft. Each launcher carries 4 Griffin® missiles. Each GLB-4 weighs less than 43 pounds empty, and will accommodate multiple electronics modules, connectors, and GPS antennas. The design and fabrication effort was four months and leveraged Fulcrum’s mix of engineering, technical, and operational experience.
