Together with the KBP JSC KBP Instrument Design Bureau, NTsV Mil&Kamov JSC and the Russian Aerospace Forces, Kalashnikov Group conducted successful trials of the Vikhr Guided Missiles. In the course of the trials at the Russian Ministry of Defence proving ground, 22 missile launches were conducted by a Ka-52 Alligator attack reconnaissance helicopter. Flight tests of the Vikhr guided missiles have been successfully completed.
As part of the trials, a Ka-52 Alligator reconnaissance and attack helicopter fired 22 missile launches. Kalashnikov enhanced the missile’s accuracy in a short-range launch and its flight stability. All improvements were made without changing the missile’s tactical and technical characteristics. Among the improvements to the missile are increasing the probability of hitting a target during short-range launches, in addition to increasing the stability in flight.
The 9K121 Vikhr (NATO reporting name: AT-16 Scallion) is a Russian laser guided anti-tank missile. “9K121” is the GRAU designation for the missile system. The missile can be launched from warships, Ka-50 and Ka-52 helicopters, and Su-25T aircraft. Vikhr missiles are designed to destroy moving armoured vehicles, enemy fortifications, and low-speed air targets. The tests conducted proved that development re-works initiated and independently conducted by Kalashnikov are successful.
Ka-52 Alligator is the next-generation reconnaissance and combat helicopter designed to destroy tanks, armoured and non-armoured ground targets, and enemy troops and helicopters both on the front line and in tactical reserves. The helicopter can operate around the clock and in all weather conditions. The Ka-52 can provide target acquisition and designation for helicopter teams and ground troop command and control centres.
