ASELSAN has recently included an indigenous fire control system for modernised M60TM main battle tank. Shots were successfully carried out from the moving tank to stationary targets. VOLKAN-M fire control system is a Turkish National Fire Control System developed under the Project of FIRAT M60T Project with the capabilities of Turkish Defense System Industry. The system is optimized to provide a superior firepower together with the maximum effectiveness in the battlefield. ASELSAN aim to qualify Turkish new tank fire control system by the end of the year.
ASELSAN also had integrated VOLKAN-II fire control system into Leopard 2A4 and ALTAY main battle tank. It can be evaluated that ASELSAN has collected the name of the fire control systems, which has been continuously developing until today, under the main title of “Volkan. ASELSAN’s sub-systems that were developed for not only MBT modernization solutions (such as; fire control systems, electrical turret drive system, remote weapon station, active protection systems, battlefield target identification system) but also Turkish National Main Battle Tank, ALTAY.
FIRAT-M60T or M60TM is a Turkish local enhancement of the M60T Mk III Sabra main battle tank unveiled in 2019. Fitted with a commander’s independent thermal viewer (CITV), a RWR/IR warning system and with an active protection system. As a part of the modernization program, Turkey announced to equip the tanks with new and locally developed Aselsan Volkan-M fire control systems. Tanks undergoing the modernization are expected to be fully completed by the end of the 2021. The Sabra is an extensively upgraded M60 Patton tank developed by Israel Military Industries.
