According to Army Recognition, the Spanish Army (Ejército de Tierra) has awarded a contract of €22.4 million to the company Instalaza for the purchase of C90 shoulder-fired and one-man operated rocket-propelled grenade launcher. The contract includes the purchase of six different models and training systems. The Spanish company Instalaza will provide three versions of its C90-CR and three models of its C90-CS weapon systems.
The Instalaza C90 also called the M3 model is a 90mm disposable, shoulder-fired and one-man operated rocket-propelled grenade launcher (RPG) which can be fitted with a VN38-C night vision device for full night combat capability. The original C-90 was designed and developed by the Spanish company Instalaza S.A. in the late 1980s, and adopted for use by the Spanish Amry in 1990, and has been manufactured and offered on the international market since the early 1990s.
The C90 weapons consist of a series of shoulder-fired rocket launchers with a number of different payload options. Various mission-specific variants of the C90-CR series are available, including anti-tank, anti-bunker, combined anti-armour/fragmentation (HEDP), smoke/incendiary, and training. Additionally, the weapon is capable of mounting a night-vision optic, the VN-38C, along with an upgraded variant called the VN-MF. This can be mounted on both the C90-CR and the HK-36E with a 4x magnification, though the default sights of the C90-CR are 2x magnification.
The C90-CR (M3) series fire 88.9 mm calibre rockets (considered 90 mm in Spanish service) out to
stated ranges of 300 m for point targets, and 800 m for area targets). As a single-use weapon system, once the rocket has been fired, the non-reloadable launch tube is discarded (Cutshaw & Gander, 2002; Instalaza, n.d.). The chance of a successful hit on a standard
vehicle target at a range of 50 metres is nearly 100%, and the C90-CR (M3) does not suffer after
being exposed to temperatures as high as 50 degrees for a period of 24 hours
