Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force JS Akebono Conducted Goodwill Exercice with Royal Malaysian Navy KD Jebat

From 1st to 2nd April, Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) vessel, JS Akebono of Overseas Training Squadron made a port call at Port Klang and successfully carried out goodwill exercise with Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) vessel, KD Jebat successfully carried out goodwill exercise. During the pot call, a ceremony was held to exchange gifts, followed by online speech and briefing to the aviation cadets on board JS AKEBONO. Through these programs, JMSDF and RMN were able to connect and deepen the mutual understanding and enhance bilateral cooperation between Japan and Malaysia.

This exercise enhanced the tactical skill, mutual understanding and the cooperative relationship of trust with the Royal Malaysian Navy in order to maintain and strengthen a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific”. Despite the COVID-19, the Self-Defense Fleet remains responsive and promotes the friendship through these goodwill exercises, and contributes to Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force’s peace and security while supporting stability of the Indo-Pacific region.

JS Akebono (DD-108) is the eighth ship of Murasame-class destroyers. She was commissioned on 19 March 2002. Akebono was laid down on October 29, 1999 at IHI Corporation Tokyo as the 1997 plan and launched on September 25, 2000. Commissioned on March 19, 2002, was incorporated into the 4th Escort Corps of the 4th Escort Corps and deployed to Kure. The Murasame-class destroyer is a class of destroyers, serving with the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF). This is the first class of the second-generation general-purpose destroyers of the JMSDF.
