On March 22, 2021, the primary technical on-line session between Ukraine and the Republic of Brazil took place within the framework of the Dialogue in the Defense sphere of the two states launched in autumn 2020. The main focus of preliminary discussion was further cooperation on the anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) and 90 and 105 mm guided missiles supply, development, and supply of aircraft missiles and their integration into the Gripen fighter jets, joint manufacturing of armored vehicles, and heavy aircraft.

The convention was joined by: from the Ukrainian aspect РAmbassador of Ukraine to Brazil Rostislav Tronenko, General Director of the Luch Design Bureau Oleg Korostelov, administration of SpetsTechnoExport SE, from Brazil РDirector of Secretariat of Defense Products (SEPROD) of Ministry of Defense of Brazil, Divisional General Luis Ant̫nio Duizit Brito, Coordinator of the Department of Trade Promotion Arthur Diniz Marra, coordinator of the Department of Trade Promotion Navy captain Pedro Sa.

Brazil’s seem to have developed interest in products by Kyiv-based DKKB Luch, a State-owned manufacturer and supplier of missile armaments. Ukrainian state foreign trade enterprise SpetsTechnoExport reported that following the consultations, the parties agreed to consider these issues in more detail during the visit of the Ukrainian delegation to the Republic of Brazil, which is scheduled for May. Brazil is mulling the purchase of air-to-air missiles to arm them on its Gripen fighter jets besides anti-tank missiles.

Brazilian Air Force contracted Saab of Sweden in 2014 to supply 36 multirole fighter jets JAS-39E/F Gripen NG, of which 13 will be built in Sweden and the remaining 23 will be locally produced at an Embraer factory in Brazil.Ukraine, for its part, is renowned manufacturer of air-to-air missiles (such as R-27 produced by State-owned JSHC Artem, Kyiv), and State-controlled design and development company DKKB Luch, Kyiv, has recently unveiled its new highly maneuverable, IR guided, short-range air-to-air missile.
