Collins Aerospace, a unit of Raytheon Technologies Corp., has been awarded a multi-year Performance Based Logistics avionics support contract to the Royal Netherlands Air Force’s (RNLAF) fleet of 15 CH-47F Chinook helicopters. Collins Aerospace will provide field service engineering, program management, logistics service and repair and overhaul for the Common Avionics Architecture System (CAAS) components installed on the aircraft at the Gilze-Rijen Air Base, in the Netherlands. With PBL and predictive supply and demand management, the RNLAF is able to reduce the number of spares needed, eliminate back-orders and cuts out any unnecessary paperwork. This reduces turnaround time, increases parts availability and saves time and money.

The Common Avionics Architecture System (CAAS) Avionics Management System integrates multiple communications, navigation and mission subsystems through its flexible Flight2â„¢ open systems architecture design. No matter the location or environmental conditions, the CAAS avionics suite is optimized for the unique requirements of the H-47’s wide array of mission profiles. Designed to enable cost-effective system upgrade and enhancement, H-47 CAAS is implemented using Collins Aerospace widely fielded Flight2â„¢ Open Systems Architecture (OSA). This approach features robust principles and open standard technologies, such as fully partitioned software, ARINC 653 RTOS, high-integrity Ethernet and 3U cPCI form factor hardware in the CAAS design. It has repeatedly proven effective in reducing total sustainment costs over a platform’s life cycle.

This PBL follows a Letter of Intent signed between the RNLAF and Collins Aerospace in 2019 and is one of the key steps the RNLAF is taking to provide guaranteed fleet availability and in-theatre support, during the RNLAF’s key missions,” said Lieutenant General J.D. Luyt, commander of the RNLAF.
