Otokar’s SAFA IFV was exhibited with Otokar design MIZRAK-30 medium turret at IDEX 2021, the International Land Defense Exhibition in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The Safa is the export version of the Tulpar, a tracked armored IFV (Infantry Fighting Vehicle) also designed and manufactured by the Turkish company Otokar. The vehicle has been designed to augment main battle tank in operations and to safely transport infantry to the front lines while providing fire support for other armored units. The infantry fighting vehicle is also available in variants such as reconnaissance, command-and-control, personnel carrier, mortar, recovery, launch rocket system, air defence, ambulance and anti-tank vehicles. The vehicle stands out with mobility, firepower and survivability features.
SAFA is fitted with the Mızrak-U turret system armed with a 30mm dual-fed automatic cannon and a 7.62mm coaxial machine gun. MIZRAK turret will be eqquiped Umtas anti tank missile. Due to its modular design, SAFA can be fitted with manned or unmanned weapon systems ranging from 7,62 mm to 120 mm as well as air defense and mortar systems. With superior mobility, SAFA can serve in all kinds of combat environments from urban, built-up areas and light bridges to woodlands and all terrains. SAFA can be integrated with active protection systems, has the capacity of carrying up to 9 infantry in addition to its crew of three (commander, gunner and driver).
The infantry fighting vehicle has a power pack in the front of the hull combined with turbo charged diesel engine and an automatic transmission provides which power ranging from 700 hp to 1100 hp. Reliable and robust torsion bar suspension system consists of seven dual rubber-tire road wheels on each side. SAFA has an Automatic Track Tensioning system which can adjust track tension for different road conditions to achieve outstanding mobility. Tested in the toughest climates and on rough terrain, SAFA boasts best-in-class ballistic and mine protection with modular armor structure that can be configured and tailored as per specific user requirements.
MIZRAK is remote controlled turret system armed with a 30mm dual-fed automatic cannon and a 7.62mm coaxial machine gun design by Otokar. This turret can be fitted with anti-tank guided missiles. The infantry fighting crew enjoy full 360-degree day/night situational awareness thanks to an array of electro-optic sensors located on the MIZRAK turret. MIZRAK-30 can fire all type of 30X173 mm NATO ammunitions including armour piercing and high explosive ammunitions.MIZRAK-30 is equipped with the latest generation digital fire control system, having independent commander and gunner dual axes stabilized sights with highest performance cooled thermal camera, CCD camera, laser range finder and meteorological sensor with integrated GPS.
