A Chilean Navy ATF-65 Janequeo built by India’s Larsen and Toubro sailed into ValparaÃso Harbour on Tuesday. This is a first for an Indian company, the Pentagon has awarded Larsen and Toubro (L&T) a $11.5 million contract to build a specialized supply vessel for the Chilean Navy. The vessel procured from L & T and supplied to Chile under the US government’s foreign military sales (FMS) program. Work will be performed in Chennai, India, and is expected to be completed by May 2020. This contract involves US foreign military sales (FMS) to Chile. The U.S. Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington, District of Columbia, is the contracting activity (N00024-20-C-2214). The vessel was one of the two Anchor Handling, Towing, Supply and Standby Vessel (AHTSSV) originally ordered by Qatari fleet owner Halul Offshore Services Co. Halul.
India’s Larsen and Toubro Ltd., Mumbai, India, is awarded contract in the support of the government of Chile for a twin-screw AHTSSV with hybrid propulsion and dynamic positioning system, hull number 71010. AHTSSV are mainly built to handle anchors for oil rigs, tow them to location, and use them to secure the rigs in place. AHTS vessels sometimes also serve as Emergency Response and Rescue Vessels (ERRVs) and as supply transports. The ATF-65 Janequeo is 70 meters long, 19 meters wide, and a maximum draft of 6.2 meters. It displaces 2,500 tons and has a static or Bollard Pull capacity of 150 tons. It can transport 38 crew members and 22 passengers. It has a DP2 dynamic positioning system and can fight fires, respond to emergencies, carry out rescue operations, refuel supplies on the high seas, recover oil spilled in the sea, and other tasks.
