The Serbian Minister of Defence Aleksandar Vulin, accompanied by the Commander of the Serbian Air Force and Air Defence (Ратно ваздухопловство и противваздухопловна одбрана Војске Србије), Major General DuÅ¡ko Žarković, visited the 204th Air Brigade at the military airport “Colonel-Pilot Milenko Pavlović” in Batajnica. The Commander of the 204th Air Brigade, Colonel Brane Krnjajić, presented Minister Vulin with framed coats of arms of units subordinate to the 204th Air Brigade, as a sign of gratitude for the strengthening of that unit. The 204th Air Brigade (204. Bаздухопловна бригада) is a main air base of Serbian Air Force and Air Defense for fighter training and transport aviation.

During visit, after the briefing about the operational capabilities of the 204th Air Brigade, Minister Vulin saw the works on the modernization of the MiG-29 aircraft whose last phase started a few days ago. After the modernization of these aircraft, they will be raised to level 4+ and thus, Serbia sky will be even better guarded and even more secure. Thanks to the Military Technical Agreement reached by the presidents and supreme commanders Aleksandar Vučić and Vladimir Putin, Serbian Air Force received a large donation in aircraft and their equipment and modernization, which is being implemented in accordance with the programme documents.

Thanks to MiG-29 aircraft and new helicopters procured after 25 years, the modernization of the existing resources and investments in the improvement of financial status of pilots and fliers, Serbian Air Force has been significantly strengthened. The Serbian Armed Forces currently have 14 MiG-29 aircraft which are among the most modern aircraft in the world. During 2017, six MiG-29 aircraft that the Serbian Armed Forces received from the Russian Federation were put into operation, and in 2019, another four aircraft of this type were received as a donation from the Republic of Belarus after the completion of their modernization .

The Serbian Armed Forces currently have 14 MiG-29 aircraft which are among the most modern aircraft in the world. MiG-29 multi-role fighter planes are essentially intended for fighting/intercepting enemy aircraft and their auxiliary purpose is to engage water and ground targets. The maximum speed of these aircraft is 2,400 km/h (Mach 2.25), the maximum flight altitude is 18,000 m, and their tactical radius is 1,500 km. By modernizing MiG-29 aircraft, combat efficiency and firepower are increased, which significantly enhances the capabilities of the Serbian Air Force and Air Defence to control and protect airspace over the Republic of Serbia and at its access points.
