The first batch of five Oshkosh Joint Light Tactical Vehicles (JLTVs) ordered by Montenegrin Armed Forces has arrived in Montenegro. During a visit to the country in October Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said the US had offered an agreement to Montenegro to deliver $36 million worth of light tactical vehicles to Montenegro. Montenegro, which joined NATO in 2017, is not the first member nation to to express interest in the JLTV program. The arrival was announced by Predrag Bošković, the Minister of Defence of Montenegro. Montenegro is to acquire JLTVs in basic configuration, eight in anti-tank configuration, and the remaining four in medical and command configurations.

Oshkosh Defense was awarded an $803.9 million deal to provide joint light tactical vehicles to the U.S. military and military of Montenegro, the Department of Defense said in an updated contract listing in 2019. Under the contract,Oshkosh will deliver 2,721 JLTVs and 16,714 associated kits for the Air Force, Marine Corps, Navy and Army, as well as to the Balkan nation. Under the contract, Montenegro will receive 30 JLTVs, making it the first NATO country to receive the new vehicles, according to Oshkosh.

Israeli defense company, Elbit Systems has been awarded a contract of approximately $35 million, to supply the Montenegrin Armed Forces with Remote Controlled Weapon Stations (RCWS) for its new Oshkosh Defense 4X4 Joint Light Tactical Vehicles (JLTVs). According to the contract signed, Elbit Systems will perform full integration of the RCWS onboard the JLTV vehicles over a three-year period and will provide logistic support for a seven-year period. Montenegro signed a US$36.17 million contract for the procurement of 67 JLTVs. The vehicles will equip Montenegro’s NATO-declared forces: the 1st Infantry Company in NikÅ¡ić and the 2nd Infantry Company in Pljevlja.

Joint Light Tactical Vehicle ( JLTV) program is a United States military program to part-replace the High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV, Humvee) fleet with a family of more survivable vehicles with greater payload. Oshkosh’s L-ATV was selected as the winner of the JLTV program in August 2015 and awarded an initial production contract for up to 16,901 JLTVs. The JLTV family now consists of three base vehicle platforms – Utility (JLTV-UTL), Close Combat Weapons Carrier (JLTV-CCWC) and General Purpose (JLTV-GP)- and four configurations based on specific Mission Packages – M1278 Heavy Guns Carrier – General Purpose (JLTV-GP), M1279 JLTV-UTL, M1280 JLTV-GP, and M1281 JLTV-CCWC.
