The Russian manufacturer of the infamous AK-47 assault rifle, Kalashnikov Group, has unveiled the newest air cushion ship Haska-10, which developed as a transport base for civilian use with a payload of 10 ton. The main purpose of the vessel is to transport cargo and passengers at sea and in areas with shallow water and inhospitable coast. In the near future this project will make a significant contri-bution to the development of the transport system of hard-to-access and socially significant regions of the Russian Federation, i.e. Siberian, Far East and Volga-Kama Baltic region river basins.
The design and engineering department of the shipyard in Rybinsk started the project in January 2018. The project is described as an economic universal transport vessel for military and civilian use. It is clear that the demand for it can be not only in the civilian market but also by Russian power structures. Haska-10 was created within the state program “Development of shipbuilding and equipment for shelf areas in the years 2013 – 2030”.
The hovercraft is powered by two Russian engines, each producing a maximum output of 800 horsepower. Such a propulsion system would be sufficient to provide the vessel with a maximum cruising speed of 40 knots (approximately 73 km / h). The vessel will be able to take on board up to 10 tons of various cargo and can easily accommodate a three-axle Kamaz truck. Length of Husky 10 is 22.3 meters, width – 12.96 meters, height – 7.4 meters. Full displacement – 35.7 tons, empty – 20 tons. The ship’s crew will consist of three people, the declared autonomy is three days. Travel range – 740 km.
