U.S. Air Force pararescuemen from the 82nd Expeditionary Rescue Squadron (ERQS) perform parajumps from a C-130J Super Hercules assigned to the 75th Expeditionary Airlift Squadron over East Africa, Aug 25, 2020. The 82nd ERQS is responsible for conducting personnel recovery opertations in the Combined Joint Task Force- Horn of Africa (CJTF-HOA) area of responsibility. Combined Joint Task Force – Horn of Africa (CJTF-HOA) is a joint task force of United States Africa Command (AFRICOM). It originated under Operation Enduring Freedom – Horn of Africa (OEF-HOA) as part of the United States response to the September 11, 2001 attacks.

The 82d Expeditionary Air Support Operations Squadron is a provisional United States Air Force unit located at Camp Buehring, Kuwait. The squadron was first organized in 1969 as the 82d Tactical Control Flight, an element of the Tactical Air Control System. It was inactivated in 1988, but was converted to provisional status in 2009 and has since served in the Global War on Terror. The 82d Expeditionary Air Support Operations Squadron is a combat support unit. The squadron provides tactical command and control of airpower assets for the Joint Forces Air Component Commander in support of the Joint Forces Commander in combat operations.
