GD Wins $2.5 Billion Order for Stryker Double-V Hull Vehicle AI (DVH A1)

The U.S. Department of Defence announced in a press release that General Dynamics Land Systems, Sterling Heights, Michigan, was awarded a $2,477,329,768 fixed-price-incentive contract for the production of Stryker Double V-Hull A1 (DVH A1) engineering change proposal vehicles. The DVH A1 ECP program provides the U.S. Army’s Stryker fleet with greater horsepower and electrical output, along with a more robust suspension and in-vehicle network. Work locations and funding will be determined with each order, with an estimated completion date of April 30, 2027. U.S. Army Contracting Command, Detroit Arsenal, Michigan, is the contracting activity.

This new underbody design known as a Double V-Hull (DVH) was based on proven technology similar to that found on the Service’s Mine Resistant Ambush Protected, or MRAP, vehicles which deflects blasts away from the vehicle and the Soldiers inside. The Stryker DVH A1 ECP Family of Vehicles (FoV) consists of seven variants on a common vehicle platform, each of which replaces a legacy Flat-Bottom Hull (FBH) Stryker: Anti-Tank Guided Missile (ATVV-A1), Commander’s Vehicle (CVV-A1), Engineer Squad Vehicle (ESVV-A1), Fire Support Vehicle (FSVV-A1), Infantry Carrier Vehicle (ICVV-A1), Mortar Carrier Vehicle (MCVV-A1) and Medical Evacuation Vehicle (MEVV-A1).

The Stryker DVH A1 Engineering Change Proposal 1 configuration, provides improved survivability against mines and improvised explosive devices. Rhe vehicle also features a stronger engine, 60,000-pound suspension, 910-amp alternator and an in-vehicle digital network. The DVH A1 will benefit from a framework for future embedded, VICTORY compliant, U.S. Army Network integrations, allowing for sharing of platform data among the Stryker’s common crew stations. The U.S. Army is looking to further enhance Soldier safety in Stryker DVHs by applying an integrated mine roller system to the front of select Stryker DVHs. The Army is currently in the process of pure-fleeting its Stryker brigades with A1 vehicles.

The IAV (Interim Armored Vehicle) Stryker is a family of eight-wheeled armored fighting vehicles derived from the Canadian LAV III. Stryker vehicles are produced by General Dynamics Land Systems for the United States Army. The vehicle is named for two unrelated U.S. soldiers who posthumously received the Medal of Honor: Private First Class Stuart S. Stryker, who died in World War II, and Specialist Four Robert F. Stryker, who died in the Vietnam War. General Dynamics is known for the production of a variety of tracked and wheeled vehicles for US and allied militaries, including the M1 Abrams main battle tank, a host of engineering vehicles and the M1126 Infantry Carrier Vehicle (ICV).
