The South Korean’ Special Maneuver Supporting Brigade of Republic of Korea Army’s (RoKA) introduced the MV-4 mineclearing unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) for the first time during last month. South Korea has joined a numerous countries worldwide which are using one of the world’s best renowned light category mine clearance systems. The training program included the operators usage of MV-4 mine clearance system with 3 different operational tools for various operations purposes. The result of the training was 11 South Korean specialists trained and ready for operations on the demilitarised zone (DMZ).

The MV-4 is a light tracked, remote-controlled mine clearance system produced by DOK-ING. MV-4 can clear all types of anti-personnel (AP) mines and unexploded ordnance (UXO). The vehicle is designed specifically for humanitarian de-mining missions. The usage of MV-4 presents a first step in a development of military mine removal operations focused on unmanned and remotely-controlled equipment in South Korea. It is expected to have an important role in securing safety of soldiers while performing mine removal operations, but also for strengthening the completeness and efficiency of the future operations.

The MV-4 features a hardened steel flail attachment tool. The flail is attached with several hammers at the end. It performs mine clearance, soil treatment and vegetation cleaning. The machine can be fitted with additional attachments such as a tiller, roller, gripper and blade for a wide range of operations. Tiller serves as a clearing tool for field control or mine clearance. It can clear anti-personnel mines laid to a depth of up to 320mm. The tool is suitable for mine clearance in areas with little or no vegetation. The roller toll is also used for field control or mine clearance purposes. The gripper tool is used to lift and move dangerous objects, cars and other obstacles in the field.

DOK-ING is a 100% privately owned Croatian company, established in the late 1991 and registered for the production of robotized and special purposes systems and equipment. The headquarters, production facilities and service are located at 15.000 square meters area in Zagreb, Croatia. The secondary production facilities are in Slunj, some 50 km south of Zagreb. Along with the branch office in USA, there is a company in South Africa, DOK-ING Africa, which supports the program for south African mines. Today DOK-ING has 220 employees, almost 170 being in Zagreb, another 30 in Slunj and up to 20 in South Africa.
