The crews of the Army Aviation of the Russian Central military district within the framework of a flight tactical exercise (LTU) worked out the detection and destruction of more than 20 targets simulating the ground forces of a simulated enemy at a training ground in the Kurgan region, Ural. The crews of Mi-24P attack helicopters and Mi-8MTV5-1 military transport helicopters took off from the airfield in the Chelyabinsk region to the area of the alleged concentration of enemy forces, worked out issues of air navigation, conducting aerial reconnaissance, determining the coordinates of targets and applying fire damage.

The Mil Mi-24 (Hind) is a large helicopter gunship, attack helicopter and low-capacity troop transport produced by Mil Moscow Helicopter Plant. The Mi-24P is a heavy upgrade of the domestically produced Mi-24 helicopter. The helicopter’s armament includes 23mm twin-barrel automatic guns placed in a nacelle under the wing. The gunship can carry up to 2.5 tonnes of underslung bomb armament weighing from 50 to 500 kilograms.The Mi-24P combines the functions of an attack rotorcraft and an infantry combat vehicle. The helicopter’s onboard equipment allow it to perform flights day and night in adverse weather conditions.

The Mil Mi-8M (NATO reporting name: Hip) is a Soviet/Russian medium twin-turbine transport helicopter in production at two factories in Kazan and Ulan-Ude. The Mi-8MTV-5 is a radically modernized version of the Mi-8MTV-1 helicopter. The multipurpose helicopter is intended for rapid airlift of troop forces to a combat area in the daytime and at night and air fire support. Mi-8MTV-5 is equipped with external store racks to cam- aerial bombs with a total weight of up to 2.000 kg, up to four pods of the S-8 rockets, or detachable 23mm gun mounts. Currently, equipping the helicopter with guided missiles is being studied.
