Sweden’s Saab has been awarded a contract to supply its Double Eagle SAROV unmanned underwater vehicle to equip the Polish Navy’s Kormoran II (Project 258) mine countermeasures vessels (MCMVs). Under the contract, awarded by Poland’s OÅ›rodek Badawczo-Rozwojowy Centrum Techniki Morskiej S.A (OBR CTM S.A) marine science centre in late January and announced on 10 February, Saab will deliver an undisclosed number of Double Eagle SAROV systems in 2021-22. The systems will be used for MCM operations ranging from mine reconnaissance to mine disposal.

The SAROV variant of the Double Eagle can operate as both a remotely operated vehicle (ROV), using a tether, or an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV), using its onboard batteries for propulsion. The Double Eagle Semi Autonomous Remotely Operated Vehicle (SAROV) systems delivered by Saab will be integrated towards the “SCOT” Combat Management System developed by CTM and equipped in accordance with the requirements of the Polish Navy. The SAROV is a versatile mine countermeasure system offering efficiency in MCM operations ranging from mine reconnaissance to mine disposal. The Double Eagle SAROV system can be equipped to operate both remotely (ROV) using a tether,or autonomously (AUV),using its onboard batteries for propulsion.
