OMTAS Antitank Missiles Test-fired from FNSS PARS and KAPLAN

Roketsan announced that they had successfully fired medium-range antitank guided missiles (ATGM) from moving FNSS PARS 4×4 armored vehicle and Kaplan Anti-Tank. All antitank guided missiles hit their targets. Qualification testing is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2019 to the Turkish Land Forces Command to begin by 2020. FNSS Savunma Sistemleri is manufacturing 184 Kaplan Anti-Tanks as the tracked platform for the OMTAS project, and 78 PARS 4×4 Anti-Tanks as the project’s wheeled antitank vehicle. The vehicles has been developed as part of the Anti-Tank Vehicles (ATV) project led by Presidency of Defence Industries (SSB), and has successfully completed firing tests performed using KORNET and OMTAS missiles launched from the FNSS’ Anti-Tank Remote Controlled Turret (ARCT).

KAPLAN Anti-Tank is the smallest member of the KAPLAN new-generation tracked armoured combat vehicle family of FNSS. The vehicle has an automatic transmission and the ability to operate jointly with main battle tanks, and can execute a broad variety of missions with the integration of different subsystems. The vehicle also features mine and armoured protection, and offers high mobility under different geographical conditions thanks to its low-weight hull and five road wheels. As an amphibious vehicle, KAPLAN Anti-Tank stands out as one of the few vehicles in its class possessing this ability.

The PARS 4×4 Anti-Tank is the smallest member of the KAPLAN new-generation wheeled armoured combat vehicle family of FNSS. The PARS 4×4 Anti-Tank was designed as a vehicle that relies on its firepower, speed and high maneuverability under all-terrain conditions to destroy enemy tanks and other armored units from a distance and to engage secondary targets after rapidly changing positions. Drawing upon its vast experience and innovative approaches, FNSS has come up with a very special amphibious vehicle that is capable of meeting all of these challenging requirements at the same time.

OMTAS is a medium range anti-tank weapon system, effective against armored threats on the battlefield. Its Imaging Infrared Seeker permits its use at day and night, and in adverse weather conditions. The OMTAS Weapon System is composed of a missile, launching platform and a fire control unit, carrying cases and training simulator. Developed by ROKETSAN A.Åž., OMTAS is a medium range anti-tank weapon system with an infrared seeker and 4 km of pre- and post-firing locking system and fire-forget/fire-update features used against armored targets from surface to surface. The OMTAS is meant as a sibling to the heavier UMTAS/Mizrak-U also produced by Roketsan. It has longer range than the OMTAS.
