Boeing has been awarded $92.4 million for work on F/A-18 Super Hornet fighter planes for the Kuwaiti government. The contract, announced Thursday by the Department of Defense, includes logistics for 22 F/A-18E and 6 F/A-18F Super Hornet aircraft under Foreign Military Sales. Work is expected to be completed by December 2020, United States Department of Defense said in a statement Thursday. The firm-fixed-price, cost-plus-fixed-fee contract, with a not-to-exceed value of around $92 million, is awarded by the U.S. Department of Navy’s Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) under the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program. FMS funds in the amount of around $39 million will be obligated at time of award.

Boeing and Kuwait finalized the long-awaited deal for 28 Super Hornets on March 2018 with a first contract worth US$1.2 billion. The US State Department in November 2016 approved a Foreign Military Sale for up to 40 aircraft in a sale then estimated to up to US$ 10.1 billion. The FMS included Lockheed Martin AAQ-33 Sniper and Raytheon ASQ-228 ATFLIR targeting pods, as well as the Raytheon APG-79 AESA radar. The combat-proven F/A-18E/F Super Hornet delivers cutting-edge next generation multi-role strike fighter capability that is available today, outdistancing current and emerging threats well into the future.

Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornet is a twin-engine supersonic, all-weather carrier-capable multirole combat jet, designed as both a fighter and attack aircraft (hence the F/A designation). The F/A-18E Super Hornet is the single-seat variant and the F/A-18F Super Hornet is the two tandem-seat variant. They are larger and more advanced derivatives of the McDonnell Douglas F/A-18C/D Hornet. The Super Hornet has the capability, flexibility and performance necessary to modernize the air or naval aviation forces of any country. Built by the industry team of Boeing, Northrop Grumman, GE Aircraft Engines, Raytheon and more than 1,900 suppliers nationwide, the Super Hornet provides the warfighter with today’s newest advances in multimission capability and growth for decades to come in missions, roles and technology.
