Russia releases video showing Kh-35U anti-ship missiles

The Russian Defense Ministry released a video on Monday of an Su-34 test-firing a Kh-35U anti-ship missile on a vessel. The Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) successfully test-fired a Kh-35U anti-ship missile (ASM) from its Su-34 long-range strike aircraft at a naval test range of the Pacific fleet. As part of the implementation of planned combat missions at the Pacific Fleet’s naval test range, Su-34 multifunctional fighter-bombers carried out practical launches of the newest guided anti-ship missiles Kh-35U. The video below shows an Su-34 before take off then jumps to the vessel being struck several times before the Su-34 lands on a runway. They made a total of eight launches, all the missiles successfully engaged the targets, according to the country’s Ministry of Defense.

The Kh-35U is a subsonic, long range advanced anti-ship cruise missile has been developed by JSC Tactical Missiles Corporation (KTRV). According to some source, the new missile uses inertial guidance with a Glonass Receiver and an active radar seeker to find its target. The Kh-35U, AS-20 Kayak NATO-codename, anti-ship missile has been designed to be released from fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft. It is a derivative of ship-launched 3M24 missile (Uran system). The Kh-35U anti-ship missile is designed to destroy surface ships displacing up to 5,000 tonnes and surface targets. The Kh-35 is Russia’s first universalized missile which сan used by surface combatants, coastal defense missile systems and aerial platforms. Also, Russian officials claim that the KH-35U is immune to enemy countermeasures. It features a solid fuel booster, a turbojet powerplant, a high-precision radio-altimeter, and an active radar guidance system in the terminal phase of the flight. During the flight the Kh-35 missile depends on the radio-altimeter and the Inertial Navigation System (INS).The missile has a range of about 250 kilometers.
