The Survivable Combat Tactical Vehicleâ„¢ (SCTV) system is a lightweight integrated armoured vehicle hull developed jointly by Textron Marine & Land Systems and Granite Tactical Vehicles to replace the crew cab of High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV) fleet currently in service with the US armed forces. The Survivable Combat Tactical Vehicle (SCTV) System offers occupants an armored monocoque v-hull crew capsule and restores tactical mobility with proven components. The system is also in service with COMMANDO Utility line including Baserunner four-wheeled vehicle. The SCTV system was developed under the US Army’s HMMWV recapitalisation programme. The US Marine Corps (USMC) ordered for three upgraded HMMWVs with SCTV system in February 2010.
The SCTV is a lightweight, highly protected system that is low in maintenance, rotary wing transportable, and compatible with all versions of HMMVWs currently in service. The solution capitalizes on previous training and maintains the characteristics of the original HMMWV cab by utilizing most of the existing controls, linkages and drive systems – the familiar and proven characteristics that make the HMMWV the vehicle of choice. Pre-assembled SCTVâ„¢ components are easily transported by road, sea or air. The retrofit can be accomplished in fewer man-hours than the current armor and frag kits. The SCTVâ„¢ is low maintenance and supported by the military’s existing parts inventory.
Featuring a V-shaped fully armoured monocoque hull, the SCTV system is designed to offer a range of protection levels, unmatched on-road/off-road mobility and superior firepower. The vehicle features door windows that can be slide opened internally or externally. The inner crew compartment is equipped with thermal guard soft interior headliner, and smooth interior to reduce physical hazards to the crew. The SCTV capsule also includes an external battery compartment, and a separate armoured module that isolates fuel cell from crew section. The bolt-in back wall supports the installation of a rear door.
The SCTV has a lower center of gravity than an up-armored HMMVW and is resistant to small arms fire, blasts and the secondary effects of blasts such as fire, crushing, rollover and collision. The armoured hull of the SCTV withstands small arms fire, explosions and secondary blast effects such as fire, suppression, rollover and collision. The SCTV features blast protection seats with five-way restraining harnesses. It includes heavy duty fire retardant insulation panels. The capsule can be equipped with Kidde fire suppression system, and Nuclear, Biological and Chemical (NBC) overpressure system. The vehicle’s components can be assembled within a short span of time, and can be transported easily by road, sea or air. The SCTV system provides protection at par with MRAP level 1 standards and reinstates tactical mobility at very lower cost in comparison with other vehicles.
