Russian armed forces carried out a test launch of an Iskander tactical missile missile from a mobile launcher during drills in the country’s eastern reaches. The Russian Defense Ministry released a video featuring the launch of an Iskander short-range ballistic missile during drills held in Russia’s Eastern Military District.The short video posted on the ministry’s official YouTube channel shows a convoy of mobile Iskander launchers and replenishment vehicles is seen in the footage on its way to a launch site hidden somewhere in the woods. The missile launcher covered in camouflage moving into position and launching its payload. The projectile traverses the skies over the launch site.

The Iskander-M is one of Russia’s newest high-precision weapons, which was adopted by the country’s armed forces in 2006. The modern Iskander missile platform, currently used by the Russian Army, comes in two versions – the Iskander-M short-range tactical missile system and the Iskander-K cruise missile platform. Both systems are capable of high-precision strikes at ranges of up to 500km. Its supersonic, guided nuclear-capable missiles, capable of achieving a range of 415-500 km, can be independently launched in seconds and are fully controlled at every stage of their flight path.
