The FT (Fighter Trainer) variant of the M-346 is a dual-role aircraft that keeps all the features that make the aircraft the best advanced trainer/Lead-In Fighter Trainer on the market but, thanks to precision weapons integration, it is also suitable for air-to-ground (close air support, counter-insurgency), and air-to-air (air policing, airspace control) missions.

The FT variant features a range of attributes that makes it an effective and reliable multirole trainer/tactical support platform: first, a carefree handling in the whole flight envelope ensuring that pilots can focus on mission success; twin-engined configuration and four channel fly-by-wire flight controls provide the redundancy needed for an excellent safety level and capability to successfully complete any mission; high fuel capacity, non-afterburning engines and air-to-air refueling capability provide the aircraft with long range and persistence in the area of operations; The M-346FT is fast and manoeuvrable even at low altitude, fully loaded and with one engine inoperative.

It is possible to integrate a Helmet Mounted Display (HMD) system, a Tactical Data Link, a complete self-protection system and a radar cross section reduction kit has been qualified.

5 external hard-points are available for the employ of an extensive variety of air-to-air and air-ground weapons and several external loads including gun, reconnaissance or target designation pod.

It is possible to integrate a Tactical Data Link, an extremely complete self-protection system, a Helmet Mounted Display (HMD) system, Voice Command, an Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) system, a Secure Communications system, an electronic warfare pod and a radar cross section reduction kit has been qualified.
