The British Army’s airborne rapid reaction force has once again proven its ability to deploy and fight at short notice in some of Africa’s most challenging environments.
The 3 PARA Battlegroup honed both both their fighting and fieldcraft skills on the baked Kenyan savannah during the six-week long Exercise Askari Storm. Built around the airborne infantry of 3rd Battalion The Parachute Regiment, the 1,000-strong force includes gunners, sappers, medics, signallers, logisticians and intelligence analysts from Colchester-based 16 Air Assault Brigade.
The troops also shared their skills with the Kenya Army’s 20th Parachute Battalion, while learning from their Kenyan counterparts about how to survive in the harsh conditions of the Archer’s Post training area.
