A new video released by Russia’s Ministry of Defense is shows off surprising maneuverability of the Sukhoi Su-30SM. Su-30SM is a specialised version of the thrust-vectoring Su-30MKI and MKM variants for the Russian military, produced by the Irkut Corporation. The new version is an updated version featuring forward canards, thrust-vectoring engines, and a new radar and fire control system. Russia’s Defence Ministry was impressed with the MKI’s performance envelope and ordered 30 Su-30SMs, a localised version of Su-30MKI, for the Russian Air Force. The Su-30SM is considered as 4+ gen jet fighter. The Su-30SM is equipped with a powerful Bars-R radar that the Russians hope will have some ability to detect stealth aircraft and the wide-angle HUD. It is an advanced derivative of the Su-30MK combat aircraft family. The Su-30MK series fighters are in service with the Algerian Air Force, Indian Air Force (IAF), Indonesian Air Force, People’s Liberation Army Air Force, Royal Malaysian Air Force, Ugandan Air Force, Venezuelan Air Force and Vietnam People’s Air Force.
