The Indonesian Navy has taken delivery of, and commissioned KRI Bima Suci three-masted training ship in Vigo, Spain. Bima Suci was launched by Spanish shipbuilder Construcciones Navales Paulino Freire in October 2016. According to specifications provided by the Indonesian Navy, the training platform features an overall length of 111.2 m, an overall beam of 13.65 m, and a hull draught of 5.95 m. The vessel’s tallest mast stands at 49 m from deck level, and the platform can fly 26 sails featuring 3,350 m2 of total sail area.
Bima Suci will replace the Indonesian Navys current 823-ton training barquentine, KRI Dewaruci. Among significant differences between Bima Suci and its predecessor is that the new ship will feature more modern navigation equipment, a desalination plant, and a data link to improve communications. In addition, Bima Suci features accommodation for up to 120 cadets per training mission – a significant improvement from the 70-trainee capacity of Dewaruci .
