29-year-old Kevin B. is a Bundeswehr sergeant stationed in the Gao region of Mali, in west Africa. Gao is the most dangerous part of the country. UN peacekeeping troops and Malian government forces are frequently attacked by insurgents.
It’s a dangerous mission for the UN soldiers. On January 18, suicide bombers blew up a vehicle at a government military facility, killing dozens of people. The attack was near the camp where German troops are based.
