EDGE entity Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB), a leader in the design, new build, repair, maintenance, refit, and conversion of naval and commercial vessels, and Sadar Defence Engineering, signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to cooperate to assess the viability of entering into definitive agreement for the provision of 12 metre platforms, as well as a transfer of technology (ToT) programme for the Indian market. The agreement was signed by Nikunj Parashar, Founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and David Massey, CEO of Abu Dhabi Ship Building.

Currently, the only 12-metre vessel built by ADSB is the 120 Fast Inshore Platform (FIP) patrol boat. ADSB unveiled a 12m fast patrol boat (FPB) and launched on the first day of NAVDEX 2021 which takes place along-side IDEX at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, 21-25 February 2022. The 12m boat can be built from 11m to 13m in length, according to customer requirements. The vessel measures 12.8m in length, 3.1m in beam OA, and has a draft of approximately 0.52m and a load displacement of around 5.5t. It has a payload of up to 2 tonnes, enabling it to carry a remote weapon station or missile systems if required, and can be configured to operate as a USV.

The 120 FIP has a large centre console and walkaround deck layout that make it highly versatile for different missions and boarding situations. The vessel is fast but also provides a smooth ride for crew, thanks to shock-mitigating seating. She has mountings with gunner backrests for 12.7mm guns aft and forward, with options for smaller guns like 7.62mm or 5.56mm to meet diverse use cases. She can accommodate up to six crew members and has adjustable seating for various cargo arrangements. The vessel also features dry storage areas for ammunition boxes and other equipment. The vessel propelled by three 400 HP outboard engines, can reach speeds in excess of 60 KN.

Intellectual property (IP) for these fast patrol boats is wholly owned by ADSB, with the modular design allowing for speedy delivery within weeks instead of months. Running one of the largest shipyards in the Middle East, ADSB operates three main naval programmes: corvettes, offshore patrol vessels and fast patrol boats. The company also provides a full range of maintenance, repair and refit, upgrade and conversion, as well as engineering consultancy services. ADSB is part of the Platforms & Systems cluster at EDGE, an advanced technology group which ranks among the top 25 military suppliers in the world.
